Following his successful MMA debut at ACB 5, Bolton’s Jack Cartwright looks ahead to May 25th and his next fight at ACB 6 “All Or Nothing”.
Hi Jack, can you tell Split Decision a little about yourself?
What is your current MMA record and weight class?
“My current records 1-0 at featherweight.”
How did you first get into Mixed Martial Arts?
“I first got into MMA because I was wrestling from an early age then got into boxing. Everyone always said I should try MMA and I’ve been a fan for ages so I decided to get into it.”
Last time you fought at Amateur-Cage Battles 5 against Robbie Fallon you had to defend against his submission attempts before the opening came for you to get the TKO, was this something you expected, had you worked on your submission defence for this fight?
“Yeah I’d heard that he had good ground game so worked on my submission defence a bit more but was prepared for everything and got the result I wanted.”
How much time do you spend training for a fight and how much weight do you cut before it?
“I’m always training whether its in the gym or running so I’m constantly ready for fights and I only cut about 2 kg so make weight pretty easy.”
How do you feel on the day of your fight and that moment when you step into the cage?
“I’m nervous fight day but mostly excited just waiting to get in the cage. I’ve been competing most my life so I’m used to it by now and when I get in the cage I just can’t wait to get it started.”
What do you find as the most challenging aspect of MMA and what is your favourite martial art to train?
“I’d say I find it all the same I just like learning new techniques and improving every session.”
Your next fight is against Luke Crossland at Amateur-Cage Battles 6. Luke’s last fight at ACB 5 was really entertaining, how do you see your fight going with him?
“Yeah I saw his fight looked like fun, hopefully he’ll stand up in this fight aswell and it’ll be a better one.”
Which international MMA fighters do you enjoy watching fight in your spare time and what do you like about them?
“I like fighters like Chuck Liddell, BJ Penn and Nick Diaz people who try to finish fights not lay back and point score.”
Thanks again for taking the time to speak to Split Decision MMA UK. Is there anybody you’d like to give a shout out to?
“Thanks mate no worries and yeah Saul Rogers, Danny Rushton, Aaron Chatfield and everyone at Team Colloseum.”
