Combat Challenge makes its first appearance in the North East on Saturday 25th October 2014 with a night of amateur and professional MMA and K1 action, live from Hartlepool Borough Hall.
With the Combat Challenge brand in Bradford being hugely successful, the promotion felt it time to branch out and give other parts of the country the chance to experience a combat challenge show.
The North East show is organised by Akurei Martial Arts owners Anthony Frankland, Nathan Boyce and Newton Boyce, who are looking to give fighters the opportunity to showcase their skills on a fantastic show, in particular competitors from the area who don’t always have the chance to fight in front of their home crowd.
It is a new challenge for the guys and the idea of the home venue is something which has stuck with them and is echoed by Anthony Frankland who said:
“We are very excited about this new venture as Teesside has many gyms and people who compete regularly in various martial arts, however more often than not have to travel away from our local area.
With this new venture we plan to run three to four events a year from Hartlepool Borough Hall so fans and competitors can get involved in the action locally.”
The main feature on the night will see professionals Perry Goodwin and Tommy Claussen do battle in a welterweight match up.
Goodwin trains out of Akurei Martial Arts and Fitness centre and hails from Redcar. He makes his second appearance as a professional on the night and competes right on his doorstep and will be looking to give his fans something to cheer for, as the venue is surely set to be packed with his fans.
As an amateur he fought in the UK and Europe, putting together a strong record and showed why he is a tough opponent for anybody. At just 22 the future is bright for him and he is ready to show why on the 25th.
However he faces a very tough opponent in Tommy Claussen who is undefeated in his professional career and will be travelling over from Norway ready to cause an upset and silence the home town faithful on the night.
The co-main event has fireworks written all over it as heavyweights Paul Venis and Darren Moffitt square off in a pro k1 match up.
Venis hails from Middlesbrough and is unbeaten in his professional K1 career to date. He is a very strong competitor who is known for his powerful hands and not allowing his opponents the space to work.
He will be tested though as he meets the always impressive Darren Moffitt who is the current heavyweight k1 champion of the Bradford based Combat Challenge and is known for not letting his opponents settle, powerful knockouts and being involved in many fights of the night. Its a rare occasion when the honey monster isn’t in a fight of the night and he will be looking to make a statement on the night.
That’s only a small teaser of what is to come on the night though, as there are even more bouts to keep everyone entertained.
