FightStar Championship heads to the midlands on Saturday 11th April 2015 and making his mixed martial arts debut on the night is Dan McConville.
Dan has had some great influences helping to push him on in the sport so far and with that support and training each day, he is ready to enter the cage in Coventry.
Seeing new MMA competitors step into the cage is always an exciting prospect and it is going to be fantastic to see Dan make his debut on the night, but that debut is still 11 days away so in the build up to the fight I caught up with Dan to get his thoughts and learn more about him.
Thanks for your time Dan. I wanted to start by asking about your route into MMA. What was it that first attracted you to the sport?
“I have been a fan of MMA for a few years and my route was influenced by Adam Florence, my training partner, who has competed on the promotion before and I’m always ready for a new challenge”.
Once you knew about the sport, what got made you decide to train and now to compete?
“Having trained for a few months I decided I wanted to take it to the next level and Fightstar being in Coventry gave me the opportunity to do that”.
Looking back on your time so far in the sport, who have been some of the bigger influences on your development?
“Adam Florence has been a key part of my development taking me to new heights and pushing me beyond my limits to better myself. Also watching fighters like Conor McGregor has shown me that anything is possible”.
You make your debut on the Fightstar Championship show. How much do you know about the show and how much are you looking forward to competing?
“I have watched highlights of past shows and can not wait to compete on the promotion. It looks incredibly well run and I look forward to showcasing my skills”.
In the build up to your debut, how much have your team mates been helping in offering advice about competing in front of a crowd?
“I have a great team behind me for this fight and they have shown me that keeping calm is key and to play to my strengths”.
On the night you take on Harveer Singh, who has fought once already. Does that make it a little easier as you can see his first fight, but there is no footage on you?
“I have watched Harveer’s fight but I understand that no two fights are the same, so I am preparing for everything which is an advantage I have, that he does not, as he cannot prepare for someone like me”.
What are you expecting from him on the night?
“His best… because he will be getting mine”.
Are you hoping to have a bit of support on the night and how much does that support mean to you?
“With FightStar being in Coventry I do hope to have some support and with it being my debut it means a lot to have people behind me and then they can see what I can do”.
And finally, is there anybody you would like to thank/give a shout out to?
“I would like to thank Fit 4 Life Kings Heath, All the guys at Elements MMA, Adam Florence, Tom Small and Khalid. All these guys have built my fight arsenal. Jermaine Johnson for my supplements and weight training. I would also like to thank my Wife, Family and Friends for being so supportive”.
